This course describes material specification and procurement, details of quality control and assurance, pre-fabrication preparation, welding, fabrication of plate girders, stringers and surface protection for steel bridges. Different types of welding, like shielded metal arc welding, submerged arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding and electro slag welding, are discussed in detail. The course material is based on Steel Bridge Design Handbook: Steel Bridge Fabrication, Publication No. FHWA-HIF-16-002 Vol.2 December 2015.

At the conclusion of this course, the learner will have a better understanding about the basic concepts of steel bridge fabrication as well as an understanding of the following topics:
